A. Taufiq Asyhari received the Ph.D. degree in Engineering (Information Engineering) from the University of Cambridge, UK, in 2012. He has been a faculty member with Coventry University, UK, since 2018, where he is currently Senior Lecturer in Internet of Things at the School of Computing, Electronics and Mathematics, leading Information Theory for Communications and Internet of Things research. Concurrently, he also holds visiting academic appointments with Birkbeck College, University of London’s BIDA Cyber Security Lab and Cranfield University’s School of Defence and Security (Defence Academy of the UK). He previously held academic and research positions at the University of Bradford, UK, National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), Taiwan, and Bell Laboratories, Stuttgart, Germany. He also held visiting appointments at Telkom University, Indonesia, the University of Stuttgart, Germany and Information Theory Labs at NCTU, Taiwan. His research interests are in the area of information theory with applications to Internet of Things, 5G and beyond wireless communications, statistical machine learning as well as biologically-inspired communications, networks and intelligence.
Dr. Asyhari is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK and a Member of IEEE (Information Theory Society). He received the outstanding reviewing award from Elsevier’s Ad Hoc Networks journal in 2018, notable Samsung Global Research Outreach Award in 2017, IEEE-EURASIP Best Paper Award at the 11th IEEE–ISWCS 2014 (Barcelona, Spain), National Science Council of Taiwan Starting Grant in 2013 and Cambridge Trust–Yousef Jameel Scholarship for his doctoral study. He currently serves as a General Chair of International Workshop on Intelligent Transportation and Smart City (ITSC) at the 5th International Conference on Dependability in Sensor, Cloud and Big Data Systems and Applications (DependSys), 2019, Guangzhou, China, and was Programme Track Chair at DependSys 2018 (Australia), Demo/Poster/WiP Co-Chair of the IEEE DASC 2018 (Greece) and was a Session Chair at the IEEE SSCI 2016 (Greece) and at the IEEE ISIT 2013 (Turkey). He has served as a Member of Technical Programme Committee in numerousleading international conferences, and has been frequently invited to review articles in prestigious IEEE journals and conferences. He has been an Associate Editor of the IEEE Access journal since March 2018; been a Guest Editor for Computers journal – Special Issue on “Machine Intelligence-Based Sensor Technologies for Scalable IoT Network Infrastructure and Applications” since May 2019; and completed editing Computers journal – Special Issue on “The Emergence of Internet of Things (IoT): Connecting Anything, Anywhere” in May 2019.
